A Walk Through Time

Stroll across Charles Bridge and you’re not just crossing the Vltava — you’re walking through centuries. Commissioned in 1357 by King Charles IV, this iconic structure replaced the older Judith Bridge, which had been damaged by a flood. Built with Bohemian sandstone and supported by 16 arches, the bridge has withstood floods, wars, and centuries of change.

Lined with 30 statues, mostly baroque-era religious figures added in the 17th and 18th centuries, Charles Bridge is not only a crossing but also an open-air gallery. Among the most famous is the statue of St. John of Nepomuk — touching the plaque beneath it is said to bring good luck and ensure your return to Prague.

At the end of your walk, the Prague Castle complex welcomes you with grandeur. Spanning over 70,000 square meters, it's the largest ancient castle in the world and home to Czech presidents, once kings and emperors. Explore the towering St. Vitus Cathedral with its stained-glass windows, Gothic architecture, and tombs of Czech royalty. Step into the Old Royal Palace and imagine royal coronations, or wander down Golden Lane, where tiny houses once sheltered alchemists and castle guards.

The Charles Bridge and Prague Castle together offer a glimpse into the soul of the Czech Republic — majestic, layered, and enduring.
